The Northside Steppers is a step team made up of boys and girls of all grades. Stepping is a fun after school activity for anyone who wants to join. Step runs all year long so if you are wanting to do, or you are already doing other sports and activities, we can work with you on scheduling practice times that work for everyone. Practices are held after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practices can also be everyday in preparation for pep assemblies. We perform at pep assemblies and basketball games. Also team members are encouraged to research and come up with their own step or dance routine to contribute to the step team. To join the team you MUST have a physical on file.
Stepping is a form of artistic dance using your body as an instrument. With a combination of footsteps, claps, and the spoken work you can make sounds and rhythms. Stepping is derived from a long and rich tradition in African-based communities to communicate allegiance to a group through movement, words and sounds. Today step is widely performed by fraternities and sororities. It is also spreading to other groups such as, Latino and Asian Americans. These links provide more information on “What is Stepping?”.
